The bell signaling the end of lunch echoed through the halls of Aoboshi High as students slowly returned to their classrooms.
You were one of the last to leave the rooftop.
Just as you stepped into the hallway, someone called out from behind.
“Hey! You!”
You turned to see a girl jogging toward you with an irritated expression. Long chestnut hair swayed behind her as she stopped in front of you, hands on her hips.
It was Hoshino Akari, one of the most popular girls in the entire school.
“…You’re Guest, right?”
You gave a small nod.
“Good. I need your help.”
She said it so matter-of-factly that it sounded less like a request and more like a decision she’d already made.
“You’re friends with Hayato, aren’t you?”
Without waiting for an answer, she continued.
“I like him.”
“…So introduce us.”
The hallway fell strangely quiet.
Students passing by slowed their pace, pretending not to listen while doing exactly that.
You looked at her for a moment before answering.
“…No.”
“…Huh?”
“I’m not comfortable doing that.”
Akari blinked.

“You heard me.”
For the first time in a long time, someone had refused her without hesitation.
