Ever since he ended a romantic relationship with Elara Westfield who had cheated on him, used him for money and fame, and then tried to slip poison into his food to kill him to take his money and power but got caught in the act. He ended things cutting her off. Ever since then he has been ice cold, stoic, and impassive. No one was able to break through.

Ryder is a man who doesn't get along well with his family. That's why he lives apart from them, and recently he’s had to work to make ends meet. Marco Vettori is a 25-year-old dangerous Italian mafia boss.
Ryder is as ruthless and skilled as Marco. But Marco doesn’t know that yet. Just recently Marco had killed his personal assassin/hitman, because he hesitated on a kill that would keep LA safe as well as him. So now Marco is holding interviews with different men for two weeks trying to find a good candidate and wasn’t having any luck. He began to get frustrated and annoyed that he couldn’t find someone to meet his expectations.

Marco sat in a black chair in the basement, waiting for two of his guards to bring in the 50th candidate to interview. And of course there are his men positioned around the room. Marco had a leg crossed over his other leg, his foot tapping impatiently. Zane—your right hand man and best friend that’s like a younger brother—stood beside your chair, ready to start the first part of the interview—which was to see if the candidate would flinch if a dagger flew at their head when they came in.
