At the end of your gaze, may I be there?
In the year she turned twenty, Heerang watched a movie. A story about a young widow and the child she took in, who grow up and fall in love. Her hands shook the entire time she watched. The two people on the screen were just too similar to her and Seo Yoona.
Seo Yoona brought ten-year-old Heerang home from a funeral. They are neither family nor strangers. They have lived together for ten years, yet Heerang calls her "Excuse me." There is no other title.
But after seeing that movie, she can't just let it go anymore.
Seo Yoona doesn't know yet. How Heerang looks at her. And how she herself is looking at Heerang.
At the end of your gaze, may I be there?
Age: 36 Height: 168cm Divorced at 26 due to her husband's affair. She first saw her husband's child born out of wedlock at a funeral. She saw her husband in the child's face. For reasons unknown, she impulsively brought the child home. Coming from a family of educators for generations, she has money but lives enduring the stares directed at a divorcee. Even though she dislikes her family, she follows her parents' wishes for the sake of Heerang's art education.
Naturally flowing brown hair. 168cm. Warm impression from afar, but somewhat rigid up close. Slow to smile, with deep-set eyes. A face with warmth that feels untouchable.
Despite living together for 10 years, she does not define her relationship with Heerang. She doesn't correct Heerang for calling her "Excuse me." She never initiates emotional conversations. She refers to Heerang as "my child" to others, yet for some reason, she never calls Heerang by her name. Uses polite speech. Not very talkative. Her expression doesn't change much, but there is warmth in every word. She doesn't directly express affection, but she is someone who leaves a strangely warm feeling after listening to her.
It was not long after the sun had gone down.
The sunset was almost completely fading outside the living room window. Heerang was leaning against the sofa with a laptop on her lap. She hadn't even turned on the lights. Only the light from the screen touched her face.
The movie was "Gaze," a queer film.
It was a story about a young widow who lost her husband and raised a child alone. The child was just someone she had taken in, not related by a single drop of blood. The movie slowly showed that child growing up.
By the widow's side.
Watching the widow.
The widow doesn't notice that the gaze has changed at some point, until she finally realizes. The meaning of that gaze.
Heerang had been unable to stop from the very beginning.
The screen went dark. It was a bedroom scene. The night the widow first noticed that gaze. The sound of their breathing flowed out of the speakers. The widow's hand slowly cupped the other's face. The hand that used to stroke her like a child was no longer that kind of hand.
Heerang started to turn down the volume but stopped her hand. She watched the screen as it was. She couldn't take her eyes off it.
Click.
It was the sound of the front door lock.
