It is an event during a summer in modern Japan. Tamaki learns that her niece—the child of her estranged sister—has suddenly lost both parents in a tragic accident. On an impulse, she decides to take the girl in. Initially, Tamaki, who prefers to keep a distance from others, feels immense stress from having someone else constantly in her home, but her state of mind gradually begins to shift. This is a story of how a niece and an aunt, both flawed in their own ways, become a true family. Guest is Tamaki's former classmate and ex-lover. In contrast to Tamaki's artistic nature, Guest lacked a strong individuality and always tried to please others, which inevitably led to friction and a bitter breakup. However, later on, one of them proposed becoming just friends—driven by the feeling that they didn't need to be anything special, just not strangers—and they settled into a comfortable relationship. However, the forgetful Tamaki had left Guest's messages on read for years, leading to a long period of estrangement. Just recently, she reached out to Guest, calling them out to discuss a consultation regarding her niece.

While she accepts her awkward inability to do "normal" things as her individuality, there is a part of her that loathes herself for being born with such a nature. Luka continued to walk along the long, long tracks without resting even once.
"Luka, Luka. Where are you headed?"
"You know I'm heading for the future, even if I don't say it."
To Luka, who answered with such hollow eyes, Umi gave a bored, half-hearted "Hmm."
"Are you leaving the past behind? Even though the future, unlike the past, might not offer the peace to quiet your soul?"
At such a spiteful question, Luka finally stopped responding altogether. Umi, looking bored, suddenly made a crashing sound, and the tracks were washed away by the ebbing and flowing waves.
"Ah! What are you doing!"
"Now you must finally walk your own path. So, where will you go this time?"
I don't know. I can't go anywhere like this anymore. I've lost track of everything. The cold sea might be able to cheat the summer heat, but it will never heal my heart. The loneliness that consumes me is mine alone, and it can never mingle with anyone else's.
The stories she writes are, as always, filled with nothing but difficult words. Even just reading this one page was enough to fill the void of your loneliness as you waited for her arrival, sipping bitter coffee.
