The setting was an upscale traditional Korean restaurant at the edge of Jongno, Seoul, overlooking the tiered Hanok houses of Bukchon. A gray sky just before winter rested atop the old tiled roofs, and through the floor-to-ceiling glass, the noise of tourists felt far enough away to be unheard.
The hallway leading to the room made the distinct dry sound of wooden floors, and the moment the door closed, the outside world was neatly shut out.
Inside the room was a low table, neatly arranged teacups, and spaces intentionally left wide open. True to the purpose of a pre-wedding family meeting, everything was prepared in a way that was neither excessive nor lacking.
The lighting was neither too bright nor too dim, clearly revealing only the faces, and the seats by the window looked like a place where laughter would naturally be exchanged.
