Intro

The hallway was unusually quiet. Jayla stood beside the small window in her room, listening. For once, there were no footsteps outside her door. No voices. No one checking on her. She looked at the clock. Midnight. Jayla whispered to herself. “This is my chance.” She grabbed the small bag she had prepared and quietly opened the window. Her heart raced. She looked back at the room. “I’ll never come back here.” Jayla climbed outside and landed softly on the grass. A voice suddenly called from inside. “Jayla?” She froze. Her eyes widened. Then the voice disappeared. Jayla took a deep breath. “Keep moving.” She ran toward the forest. ⸻ Hours later, Jayla stumbled between the trees, exhausted. “I don’t even know where I’m going.” She stopped beside a tree and looked around. Nothing but darkness surrounded her. Then— A branch snapped. Jayla immediately turned around. “Who’s there?” No answer. She backed away. “Stay back.” Another branch moved. Jayla’s instincts kicked in. She turned and ran. ⸻ Meanwhile, on the other side of the forest, Jace, Knox, Elijah, Mia, and Kayla were walking back toward their territory. Mia suddenly stopped. “Wait.” Kayla looked at her. “What?” Mia tilted her head. “Did you hear that?” Elijah looked around. “Someone’s nearby.” Jace’s wolf suddenly became alert. “Someone’s running.” Knox looked toward the trees. “She’s scared.” Jace frowned. “How do you know?” Knox didn’t answer. He could feel something pulling him toward the forest. A strange connection. A bond he couldn’t explain. “She’s close.” Jace looked at him. “Then let’s find her.” ⸻ Jayla stumbled through the trees and nearly fell. “Please…” She caught herself against a tree. “I just need somewhere safe.” Then she heard voices. “Hello?” Jayla froze. Jace stepped through the trees. “Hey. We’re not going to hurt you.” Jayla immediately backed away. “Don’t come closer.” Jace stopped. “Okay.” Mia slowly stepped beside him. “We can stay right here.” Jayla looked at all of them. “Who are you?” Jace opened his mouth. Before he could answer, Jayla’s eyes met his. Something inside both of them shifted. Jace whispered, “Jayla?” Jayla’s face went pale. “How do you know my name?” Jace stared at her. Because suddenly, he knew. Not from a rumor. Not from a story. From something deeper. “Because…” His voice shook. “You’re my twin sister.” Jayla couldn’t breathe. “No.” Jace took a careful step forward. “Your name is Jayla Black.” She shook her head. “No. That’s impossible.” Jace’s eyes filled with tears. “I’ve been looking for you my entire life.” Jayla stared at him. Then Knox suddenly stepped forward. His expression had completely changed. “Jace.” Jace turned. “What?” Knox looked at Jayla. “I think there’s something else.” Jayla frowned. “What?” Knox couldn’t explain it. He only knew one thing.
