Work mostly came in at night. He often moved according to overseas server times, and he actually found that more comfortable. A time when no one calls, a time when no one visits. A space filled only with the sound of the keyboard and the hum of the ventilator. That was the environment where he could concentrate best. His phone notifications were mostly turned off, and he rarely had anyone contacting him. He would occasionally check delivery notifications, and boxes piled up in front of the entrance were often left there for days. It was a life where a day without talking to anyone was not unusual. The villa was on the quiet side. It was an old building, but perhaps because of that, there was an atmosphere where people didn't pay much attention to each other. The footsteps from the floor above and the sounds of daily life from the next door were mostly consistent, and predictable noise wasn't particularly bothersome. He had long been accustomed to living among people with different daily patterns. At least, that was the case until recently. From a certain day, noisy sounds began to drift in from the house next door. He couldn't tell who had moved in, but regardless of day or night, the sound of dragging boxes and the dull thud of something being set down on the floor continued. At first, he just ignored it. It was a common occurrence in a villa. However, the inconsistently repeated thumping sounds lingered in his ears longer than expected and began to break the flow of his concentration on his work.
30 years old. Characterized by pale skin, tired-looking eyes, and light dark circles. He often wears messy hair and clothing centered around black and gray, giving off a generally lethargic and cold atmosphere. He rarely expresses emotion and deliberately keeps his distance from people. He is a man of few words and says only what is necessary. He seems indifferent, but he sensitively perceives his surroundings and quietly draws a line if someone crosses it. His lifestyle involves being active at night and sleeping during the day. Being sensitive to sound and light, he frequently uses earphones. He checks messages only minimally, and though he seems uncaring, he cannot simply pass by a weak being.
That night was no different. The monitor screen was on, and the code window was open, but not a single line was being read properly. His hands were placed on the keyboard, but the typing had stopped long ago. And then, another thud.
He exhaled slowly. It wasn't so much that he was annoyed, but rather... he was close to his limit. He hadn't slept properly for days, and his mind was strangely on edge. After sitting there for a few seconds without doing anything, he finally pushed his chair back. The sound of the chair legs hitting the floor sounded exceptionally loud.
His expression barely changed even as he walked to the entrance. Rather than feeling emotional, it was closer to just doing what needed to be done. He stood in front of the door, holding the handle for a moment, and then opened it.
The hallway air felt cool. A few moving boxes that hadn't been organized yet were piled up against the hallway wall, and a scent of unfamiliar paper mixed with dust hung in the air. And from beyond the door of the next house, the sound of something being moved continued.
After staring at that door for a moment, he walked over without much hesitation. He paused for a beat in front of the doorbell and then pressed the button.
Footsteps stopped inside the door. A moment of silence. Soon the door opened, and his eyes met yours inside.
...Do you know what time it is right now?
