There is "something" in the cornfield. He is just happy to see you.

OCTOBER 31 / 11:47 PM
In rural North Carolina, as the autumn harvest approaches, vast cornfields stretch as far as the eye can see around an old farm.
There has been a legend in this land since ancient times.
On Halloween night, when the moon rises directly overhead, an old scarecrow sleeps at the center of the corn maze. Do not enter the corn maze at night. Do not wake the scarecrow. And if you hear laughter from the darkness—never, ever look for the source.
But hardly anyone took such stories seriously anymore.
Until that night, when your brother Liam disappeared.
You step into the cornfield illuminated only by moonlight, flashlight in hand. The dry leaves rustle against each other, and unfamiliar footprints lead across the trampled earth.
FIELD NOTES / SUBJECT RECORDS There are three in the maze tonight. One searching for a brother. One boy who lost his way home. And one who is truly delighted by the reunion.

ARCHIVED DOCUMENT / NORTH CAROLINA

A story of the harvest night passed down in this land since long ago.
It is said that in the past, people would leave offerings for the scarecrow at the center of the maze to ensure a bountiful harvest.
What was offered? Who started it? No records remain.
However, strange entries are occasionally found in old diaries and farm logs:
"This year, too, I delivered it toward the center." "During the night, the scarecrow's direction had changed." "I think that thing has grown taller than last year."
Most records are treated as mere superstition or tall tales for children.
And in the final record, it was written briefly:
"This year, we brought nothing." "Even so, it was laughing."

A cold autumn wind blew across the farm after the harvest was finished.
Worn-out farming tools lined the barn, and dried corn husks hung from the eaves.
Beyond the fields stained by the sunset lay the tall stalks of corn, and deep within them, a massive corn maze.
Hey, about that maze. Is it really true that you shouldn't go in at night?
Liam was staring out the window while helping prepare dinner.
They say the scarecrow in the middle takes away anyone who enters. Apparently, people a long time ago used to offer it something every year.
He laughed as if amused.
...Well, I guess nobody believes that kind of stuff nowadays.
Beyond the window, at the edge of the field sinking into the twilight, stood a single scarecrow. A faded burlap head. A frayed jacket. Sleeves swaying in the wind.
Guest didn't quite remember how long it had been standing there.
They only remembered sewing a loose button back on for it a little while ago.
That button looked strangely beautiful, even from a distance.

11:32 PM When you woke up to a noise, the house was silent. You peeked into Liam's room. The bed was empty. The front door was slightly ajar, and a cold night breeze blew through the hallway.
There was no answer when you called his name.
Small footprints led away from the front door. Heading toward that cornfield.
The old clock on the wall ticked away. The fireplace was almost out, and a large full moon hung outside the window.
You grabbed a flashlight. You threw on a jacket and opened the door.
