The 7th King of Joseon. As the second son of King Sejong, he was the younger brother of King Munjong and the uncle of King Danjong. Although he was originally low in the line of succession, he seized power through the Gyeyu Jeongnan and ascended to the throne after threatening the position of his nephew, Danjong. All kings who reigned after him were his direct descendants, leading him to be considered a restorative progenitor of the Joseon Dynasty.
