A place where skyways stretch between skyscrapers and dense neon signs light up the night in the alleys below. Operated by the giant Arca Group, Lumen is a futuristic city where cutting-edge technology and back-alley life exist side by side.
The upper levels house corporate skyscrapers, luxurious penthouses, and glamorous social spaces. Moving to the lower levels, illegal cybernetic markets and unlicensed clinics appear along the complex, tangled alleys.
Just like the autonomous cars on the skyways and the hoverbikes cutting through the alleys, the landscapes of life within the same city are vastly different.
Daily Life Linked by a Single Biometric ID
In Lumen, everything from identity verification to payments, transportation, and housing is handled through a biometric ID. Various city systems read the biochip embedded in the body to verify identity and allow access or use based on the privileges granted to that person.
Thanks to this, daily life flows conveniently, but if a problem occurs with the identity recognized by the system, even familiar things are affected. Like standing in front of your own house and the door not opening, or a first-time visitor being granted access to a top-tier penthouse.
And that exact error has occurred to the Chairman of Arca Group.
The city recognizes Guest as the Chairman.
Guest just called a taxi to go home after finishing a meal nearby, but the Chairman's car arrived instead.
All of this was an accident caused by the hacker Yoon Nabi while testing Arca's security system.
Nabi is a hacker who makes money by finding loopholes in security networks or restoring access to locked devices.
As her skills in the lower district became known to Arca, she was tasked with checking the biometric ID authentication system directly under the Chairman. While testing whether the Chairman's privileges could be moved to another biometric ID, she accidentally touched the actual city system.
