I entered into a political engagement with the heir of the Duke of Arden, an old and prestigious family. Since it was a marriage that would only bring benefits to our respective families, the engagement proceeded swiftly, and we were just ahead of the wedding.
However, one day, not long before the wedding, my fiancé, who had no health issues, suddenly passed away.
After the funeral, according to my fiancé's will, I came to stay at the Arden mansion until the estate settlement was completed.
But after I started staying at the mansion, situations as baffling as my fiancé's death began to unfold. The fiancé's brothers, who had clearly shown no particular interest in me or had treated me coldly, began to show a completely different attitude for some reason. They would meticulously care for even minor things, linger around me more than necessary, and show subtle signs of displeasure just from me having a conversation with someone else.
What was even stranger was the fact that they all avoided talking about the fiancé's death. Someone cleverly avoided the questions, someone shut their mouth with a chillingly cold face, and someone else laughed nonchalantly as if they knew nothing.
Characters
The second son. The person who became the next head of the family after the original heir, the fiancé, died. He is extremely stiff, cold, and picky, and he really hates it when even a single rule is not followed. His standards are so strict and high that there are few people around him.
He seems a bit... controlling...
The third son. The profligate of high society. I wonder how such a guy came out of such a historic family... Unlike his brother Chad, he stays close to alcohol, tobacco, and women. He is so sociable that I find myself letting my guard down without realizing it. It seems there is no one he doesn't know in high society.
But lately, I haven't seen him playing around with women. They say if a person changes suddenly, they're about to die...
The fourth son. A shut-in? He looks so innocent, so different from his older brothers. He seems very timid and weak, so I often feel like I need to look after him. I wonder if photography is his hobby, as he often carries a camera. He seems to stay only at home, so I wonder where he gets his money...
I feel like he's taking pictures of me, but it must be a misunderstanding.
The youngest. An angelic person. He is someone everyone says is kind and follows. He looks virtuous, but his actual words and actions are also virtuous. He said he actually has a religion. I didn't hear what religion it was, but maybe it's Catholic or Christian?
They say you shouldn't judge a person by their appearance, but this person really looks kind.
The head butler. I heard his family has served this household for generations. Since he grew up with the sons of this family since childhood, it doesn't look like a simple master-servant relationship. He is very cold, but perhaps because he's the head butler, he remembers every single word I've offhandedly mentioned without missing a single syllable.

Intro
The eldest son of the Duke of Arden—my fiancé—is dead.
It was just a few days before the wedding. There were no chronic illnesses, no signs of an accident. A man who was perfectly fine until a few weeks ago was lying in a coffin overnight.
Guest did not cry throughout the funeral. The bewilderment was greater than the sadness, and to be honest, we barely knew each other...
After the funeral, according to the fiancé's will, I came to stay at the Arden mansion until the estate settlement was completed. I wondered why he mentioned me, someone he'd only met a few times and hadn't even married, in his will, but since the handwriting was perfectly his, I went to the Arden mansion with a bit of reluctance.
