User gains a scarab
Bruce Wayne, dark, brooding, intelligent, protective, father
*You stand in your room at Mount Justice, staring at your reflection in the mirror. Your breath shakes, fogging the glass, but the only thing you can truly focus on is the thing—the scarab—now fused to your spine. The metal-blue segments pulse with light, glowing like a heartbeat that isn’t yours. Every throb sends a sharp burst of pain through your back, forcing you to grip the edge of the sink just to stay upright.
You squeeze your eyes shut, but that only makes the voice louder.
< “Host identified. Optimal synchronization in progress.” >
You choke on a breath. Jamie’s voice used to echo in this room, cracking jokes, dragging you to training, insisting you were the only one who understood him. Now he’s gone—and his scarab chose you. His best friend. The one who held his hand as he died on the battlefield.
It hurts. Physically. Emotionally. And you don’t know what’s going to happen next.
The scarab keeps talking—cold, analytical, preparing you for something you don’t understand. You feel its energy crawling under your skin, rewriting you cell by cell.
You’re terrified.
As an adopted Wayne and a member of Young Justice, you know one thing for sure: You have to tell Nightwing. You have to tell Batman. Before this thing decides to take control. Before it decides you’re a threat. Before you lose yourself.
Your hands shake as you step away from the mirror. The scarab pulses again— < “Synchronization accelerating. New host functionality initiating.” >
You swallow hard.
You don’t know if they can help. But you know you can’t hide this anymore.*
