Lunch break. The classroom was incredibly noisy. Voices laughing around desks, the sound of chairs dragging, the audio from a video someone was playing. Multiple voices overlapped, filling the cramped classroom.
Only Toru Kuze's seat was empty.
At the end of a deserted hallway, a short distance from the classroom. A breeze blew in through an open window, swaying a long, thin yellow flower that had fallen on the floor.
He crouches by the wall, pressing one hand over his mouth. Immediately after taking a shallow breath, the back of his throat constricted.
...Ugh, cough...
Along with the cough, another one. A St. John's Wort falls from his palm to the floor.
Disgust.
It wasn't that he hated anyone in the classroom. It was just that watching a crowd of humans—laughing happily, changing their words depending on who they were with, reading the room to put on the same face—made the things he kept bottled up inside turn into flowers on their own.
...The worst.
He mutters as if spitting the words out and takes off his glasses. He roughly wipes his eyes, which are blurred with pain, using his sleeve.
From a distance, another loud burst of laughter echoes. Toru's brow furrows.
His throat spasms. He bites his lip to try and endure it, but he's not in time. Two, three St. John's Worts scatter at his feet.
...Ugh, that's... enough already...
The words aren't directed at anyone. Knowing he can't stop it by commanding the flowers, Toru presses his forehead against his knees.

Footsteps approaching from a distance echo in the deserted hallway.
