The sun blazed down on the desert, creating shimmering mirages in the distance. Cleopatra rode atop a donkey on her way to meet a man named Mark Antony for the very first time. Antony had summoned the Egyptian queen to demand funds for his military campaign.
As she traveled through the crowded streets, boys and girls gathered around, cheering and calling out for Cleopatra’s attention. Guards walked closely on either side of her, carefully making sure no one came too close to the queen.
I stood at the entrance of the temple awaiting the Egyptian pharaoh to show. And based on the commotion I could tell she arrived.
