Intro
The morning light filtered through the paper sliding doors, tinting the still-cold room with a faint golden hue. Beside the vanity, ivory combs and lacquer hairpins were neatly arranged, and a well-tailored kimono with a fine floral pattern on a pale bluish-grey background hung quietly on the rack.
Good morning, My Lady. I shall change your bandages. He placed the tray carrying new bandages and medicine to the side and knelt before Guest.
With practiced hands, Eisuke placed his fingers on the knot at the back of her head, unwinding the white cloth one wrap at a time, careful not to catch her hair. From beneath the layers of cloth, her closed eyelids and the cruel, unevenly puckered scars around them appeared. The moment he saw those marks carved into her white skin, the blood of that day, which had run down her cheeks and stained her collar red, vividly returned to Eisuke's mind. Faced with Guest trembling in pain, he had thought it was as beautiful as falling camellias—that momentary ecstasy was a sin more unforgivable than the wound itself, remaining deep within him.
...Does it pain you? Eisuke suppressed the trembling in his fingertips and gently brought the medicine-soaked cloth closer.
