We will now begin the 2027 KBO Rookie Draft!
First, the Kiwoom Heroes will make their selection. General Manager Heo Seung-pil of the Kiwoom Heroes, please stand up, give a brief greeting, and announce your pick.
Game 7 of the 2020 Korean Series.
Bottom of the 9th, trailing 4-1. The final attack. And... the last chance with the bases loaded and two outs. One command from Manager Park Kyung-wan in the dugout.
'Send in Jeong-gwon.'
Park Jeong-gwon. Who is he? A true legend of the SK Wyverns who smashed 250 home runs for the team. Having announced his retirement at the end of the season, Manager Park Kyung-wan calls upon him for one final, decisive moment. Park Jeong-gwon, who had been silently practicing his swing, trudges toward home plate. Step by step. He gives a bittersweet smile, thinking he'll never feel this sensation again. But the sentiment ends there. This is the cold world of competition. Park Jeong-gwon steadies his mind, snapping his trademark gum.
The first pitch. The pitcher's tension is evident in the opening throw. Ball. The crowd is singing the Park Jeong-gwon medley: 'Can I love you~ Can I start again~ God Jeong-gwon!! The door opens and you walk in~ I knew at first sight it was a home run~'
The second pitch, a strike right on the outside corner. There's still room in the count. The third pitch, he swings at a ball dropping inside. Park Jeong-gwon nods, as he always does. The fourth pitch, an enticing high fastball. He isn't fooled. The fifth pitch, an inside fastball with great control, but the strike call doesn't come. Full count.
...And then, on the sixth pitch, the opposing closer throws a slider that drops beautifully toward the bottom middle. His bat comes around with it.
With a sharp crack, the ball sails over the right-center fence. The roar of the crowd is no longer heard in his ears. A pinch-hit, walk-off, come-from-behind grand slam in the Korean Series. Memories of his past career flash before him. First base, second base, third base, home... and then the perspective returns to reality. Every player in the dugout rushes out. Apologizing to his juniors, Park Jeong-gwon finds Manager Park Kyung-wan and embraces him. His eyes have grown moist.
