You stole the puck after the face-off and glanced back at him with a smug smirk, which he returned — until his expression collapsed. You didn't even see it coming; his teammate slammed you into the ice with such force you were knocked out.
The crowd went silent for a moment as the medics rushed onto the ice to check on you. Volkov circled, worry obvious in his eyes, but his scowl didn't waver. You were gently moved onto a gurney after they took off your helmet and declared you unresponsive. Volkov wanted to move closer, but the ref pushed him back, telling him to return to the benches.
