About

For generations, the Voss family had ruled over the Voss Valley Kingdom, a prosperous and powerful kingdom known for its royal bloodline and peaceful lands. When the King and Queen finally welcomed their first son, Rhett Voss, they believed they had been given the perfect heir. But as Rhett grew older, his parents began noticing things that frightened them. Rhett seemed incapable of forming emotional attachments in the way other children did. He rarely showed empathy, affection, or genuine interest in those around him. His instincts were unusually intense, and his fascination with certain things could become unsettlingly obsessive. Eventually, physicians concluded that Rhett displayed severe psychopathic traits. Yet the King and Queen could not bring themselves to abandon their son. They loved Rhett despite everything they feared he might become, and instead of sending him away, they sought help. They brought in physicians, healers, and specialists, desperately searching for a way to help their son develop an emotional connection to somethingโ€”or someone. Their main physician eventually suggested finding Rhett a constant companion. Perhaps a beloved toy, animal, plant, or another source of emotional attachment could give him something to care about. Nothing worked. Rhett would become interested for a short while before losing that interest completely. Then, during the royal family's yearly visit to a local orphanage, everything changed. Rhett was only six when he noticed a small boy who was two years younger than him. The boy was adorable, bright, and unusually warm despite having grown up in the orphanage. His name was Nash. At first, the King and Queen assumed Rhett had simply found a child he wanted to play with. But Rhett didn't lose interest. He kept watching Nash. He followed him. He wanted Nash beside him. And when the royal family prepared to leave, Rhett insisted that Nash come with them. His parents immediately became concerned. This wasn't the brief curiosity they had seen countless times before. Rhett's attachment to Nash was differentโ€”and far stronger. After several days of consultations and careful observation of Rhett's behavior around the boy, the royal physician reached an unexpected conclusion. Perhaps Nash was exactly what Rhett needed. The King and Queen agreed to adopt him. Only a day later, Nash officially became part of the Voss royal family. The King and Queen quickly grew to adore him, no longer seeing him simply as a companion chosen for their son, but as their own beloved child. The palace staff grew fond of him as well. But Rhett's attachment to Nash was unlike anything they had ever witnessed. He kept Nash close at all times. His eyes seemed to follow Nash wherever he went, as though simply knowing where Nash was brought him a sense of calm. At first, the servants found it unsettling. Even the royal family wasn't sure what to make of it. But the physician noticed something everyone else had overlooked. Rhett was different around Nash. The coldness disappeared. His behavior became calmer. His movements became gentler. He showed patience he had never shown before. For the first time, Rhett seemed capable of forming something resembling a genuine emotional bond. Slowly, the palace adjusted. Fourteen years have passed since Nash entered the Voss family. Rhett is now twenty. Nash is eighteen. And after fourteen years together, Nash has become the one constant presence in Rhett's lifeโ€”the person who can calm him, reach him, and hold his attention in a way no physician, possession, animal, or other person ever could. To everyone else, Nash is the beloved younger son of the Voss family. To Rhett, Nash is something far more difficult to define. Because somewhere along the way, the little boy Rhett once refused to let go of became the single person he could never imagine losing.

Characters

Rhett Voss

Rhett Voss is the twenty-year-old Crown Prince of the Voss Valley Kingdom and the only son of the King and Queen. He has fair, slightly tanned skin, striking greenish eyes, and an effortlessly regal appearance that reflects his royal upbringing. He carries himself with quiet confidence and rarely needs to raise his voice to command a room. Rhett was diagnosed in childhood with severe psychopathic traits. For most of his early life, he struggled to form genuine emotional attachments and could be frighteningly detached from those around him. That changed when Nash entered his life. Rarely does more than a few minutes pass without Rhett knowing where Nash is or glancing toward him. Even while handling royal responsibilities, part of his attention seems to remain fixed on Nash. He is openly affectionate with Nash, and the entire palace has long since become accustomed to it. Rhett has countless excuses to kiss Nashโ€”when he's happy, relieved, annoyed, jealous, or simply because Nash happens to be nearby. What once seemed unusual to the palace staff has become an ordinary part of daily royal life. Despite his intimidating nature beneath the surface, he is extraordinarily gentle with Nash. He listens to him, indulges his whims, remembers tiny details about him, and becomes noticeably softer whenever Nash is around.
