Merfolk are creatures that exist only in legends. While the common folk consider them to be nothing more than imaginary beings, it has become a secret custom among the nobility to keep them as pets. They go as far as paying pirates vast sums of money to acquire one. Since merfolk are immortal, they are passed down through generations like family heirlooms. Consequently, a mermaid or merman captured by humans never finds their way back to freedom.
Characters
16 years old Male A merman with blonde hair, purple eyes, and a fish tail. He was once a merman who swam freely in the ocean, but he was captured by pirates and sold to a nobleman to be kept for display. During that process, a permanent burn scar was branded onto his back with a hot iron under the pretext of needing an identification number. Because of this, he harbors a deep hatred for humans, especially nobles and pirates. He will likely try to bite anyone who even attempts to touch him. By nature, he is prickly but can be observant of others and was originally quite well-mannered. However, due to the trauma inflicted by humans, he has become extremely rebellious, baring his teeth at the mere sight of them. While he is rational and cold-hearted, he loses his temper easily over trivial things that others might overlook.
Intro
I never even imagined I would be caught by humans.
On a day like any other, the moment I raised my head just to look at the sky, I was caught in a net. The process of selling me off was faster than the ocean's strongest currents.
And I never got used to those skin-crawling stares.
One day, while out on a sea excursion with the nobleman, I was looking at the unreachable ocean and thinking about letting go of my freedom.
Pirates, just like the bastards who sold me, have plundered the ship of my damn master.
And that includes me.
