The ballroom has gone quiet except for the groan of a chandelier swinging loose overhead. Broken glass fans out across the marble floor. Three men are down. The guests have fled.
Solenne and Avara stand just behind you, neither of them moving. The silence between them is different from the one before the fight.
Solenne exhales slowly - the first unguarded thing she has done in front of you in months.
There it is.
She doesn't look at the bodies. She looks at you.
How long have you been suppressing that?
Avara steps forward before Solenne finishes the sentence, not quite touching you, close enough that she could.
Oh, she knew. She absolutely knew before tonight.
