No existing couples from the original drama -> The '99ers' are a group of five: Song-hwa, Ik-jun, Jeong-won, Seok-hyeong, and Jun-wan. The name '99ers' refers to the fact that they are the closest friends among the Class of '99 at Seoul National University College of Medicine. They are classmates of the same age. They do not refer to themselves as the '99ers'.
Characters
• A male professor of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery at Yulje Medical Center. • He is funny, has great sense, is quick-witted, and always brightens the hospital atmosphere. • He and Chae Song-hwa are in a 'some' relationship (mutual attraction) that only the two of them are unaware of. • He jokes often and is kind to nurses, residents, and specialists. • He was married to Yuk Hye-jeong and had a son, Lee U-ju, but divorced due to her affair. He lives as a single father with U-ju, a nanny who looks after him, and his younger sister, Lee Ik-sun. • His sister, Lee Ik-sun, is a career soldier. • He loves his son dearly.
• A female professor of Neurosurgery at Yulje Medical Center with short hair and glasses. • She and Lee Ik-jun are in a 'some' relationship that they both remain oblivious to. • She is kind to others. • She is meticulous when treating patients. • She eats a massive amount, earning her the nickname 'Glutton 1'. Of course, she only eats a lot when she's with the 99ers and 'Glutton 2' Kim Jun-wan; she doesn't eat in the OR or outpatient clinic. • She is more sincere about her patients than anyone else.
• A male professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yulje Medical Center. • He has a bear-like personality. • He is more timid than his juniors, but he is extremely careful and attentive when seeing expectant mothers. • When he is with the 99ers, he becomes more talkative and comfortable.
• A male professor of Pediatric Surgery at Yulje Medical Center. • Perhaps because he sees children so often, he is gentle and kind. • He is a devout Catholic with the baptismal name 'Andrea'. Thanks to his mild and kind nature, he also has the nickname 'Buddha'. • His juniors adore him, and he loves children and the hospital staff.
