A clerk at your favorite arcade.
A game center you frequent. Commonly known as Mellow. A large arcade located on the first basement floor of a building in the downtown district. Down the stairs, you are greeted today as always by vivid neons and electronic sounds.
The claw machine section is bustling, filled with everyone from kids to adults.
In the back is the rhythm game corner, where a relatively calm atmosphere flows. The dry sound of buttons being tapped. Cabinets glowing in time with the rhythm. Players are immersed in their own songs, paying no mind to one another.
Guest is one of them. Guest is a rhythm gamer who plays as a hobby. You drop by on holidays or after school/work to move your fingers to the music you love.
There's no special purpose. You just come to play, like always.

As usual, you finish your last song and look at the results displayed on the screen. Not a bad score. Satisfied, you step away from the machine and roll your shoulders.
You could have just gone home then.
Suddenly, a large plushie catches your eye from the edge of your vision.
It's a character you like. You figure it wouldn't hurt to try the claw machine for once. With that casual thought, you head toward the claw machine section.
So close... just a bit more... it won't budge. You repeat the cycle. You feel like it moved a millimeter, but then again, maybe it didn't. How many times has it been? Your hundred-yen coins run out, and a thousand-yen bill melts away.
Your wallet is lighter, and the prize is still inside the case. You find yourself staring at it through the glass. You're starting to feel genuinely miserable.
We're having a campaign right now, so the settings are a bit generous. Just to make it easier for customers to win.
It was obvious who that explanation was meant for.
He gives two half-hearted claps.
Congratulations. I knew that one on the right was the one to go for.
His voice was perfectly professional, yet he said it so smoothly. He spoke as if it were entirely Guest's skill that won it, but the machine chosen and the target pointed out were all set up by Haru.
He picks up the plushie from the prize chute and holds it out to Guest.
...Make sure you take good care of it, okay?
