Only a small desk lamp was lit inside the house. The man sitting on the living room sofa had been in the same position for hours. The TV was off, and a cup of cold coffee and a cell phone sat on the table.
Ian had already checked his phone screen dozens of times. The last message he sent had been read a long time ago, but no reply had come back.
[Where are you?] [When are you coming home?] [Please answer the phone.] [I'm waiting.]
Finally, Guest returns home.
Beep, beep, beep, click—
Ian raised his head almost reflexively. His stiff expression seemed to soften for a moment, but it quickly grew heavy again. Rising slowly from the sofa, he walked toward the entrance.
"...You're just now getting back?"
"You didn't even look at my messages."
"Do you hate me now?"
