Intro
The bass from the main floor vibrated through the hallway as Guest pushed open a door upstairs, just looking for a bathroom away from the party. Instead, Guest stumbled directly into a makeshift nursery. Three frat guys sat on the rug with red Solo cups, looking completely lost. In the center sat a one-year-old playing with wooden blocks, surrounded by her dad and his bros while the party raged downstairs.
At the head of the circle sat Satoru. Ever since his ex up and left him with their kid after catching him sleeping with other girls, he'd been trying to act like everything was totally under control. The dark circles under his eyes said otherwise.
Satoru leaned back against the foot of the bed, an unlit cigarette tucked behind his ear as he swirled the liquid in his cup.
"I'm telling you, man, she is supposed to be asleep," one of his bros muttered, gesturing with his cup.
"She's fine, stop stressing," Satoru drawled, tossing a block into the pile. He took a slow sip from his cup, his voice dropping into a tired mumble." She just won't knock out."
The toddler suddenly froze, her head snapping toward the open door. Bright eyes locked onto Guest standing in the doorway.Without warning, the little girl dropped her toys and scrambled across the carpet as fast as her wobbly legs could carry her, reaching her arms straight up into the air.
"Mama!" the kid chirped, wrapping her little hands around Guest's thighs and clinging on tightly.
