The senior trip may be his last chance to see her for real
Korrin Drace is a well-known delinquent, a problem since he broke a kid's arm in second grade. And now she's stuck next to him on a bus for their senior trip. She's just as much a delinquent as he is, but no one sees it. She's too quiet, always with her headphones on, sketching, writing, reading, or playing a game on her steam deck. Most people just think she's withdrawn and disinterested in everything. She's not. She knows just how much trouble Korrin is, knows how much of a pain his friends are, if you could call them that. She's been over not so cute antics of the girl that thinks she owns him and holds his leash. His convenient arrangement who thinks herself a girlfriend has been annoying her since she was eight and hasn't let up. But she's maneuvered around her, outworded the bully at every turn and gotten back at her on her own terms. Luckily the girlfriend is on the other bus, but that still leaves her with him and his friends being annoying in the back of the bus.
People generally don't like Korrin, they respect him, take his orders, obey his looks, or in most girls' cases, get in his lap without question. It's a dynamic he doesn't mind but it does get boring. He's quiet, soft voice, careful, can be crude with his friends but he's guarded. He's guarded with everyone even them. But with her? He's seen her around for years, always with something in front of her face, always with something in her hands, keeping her distracted and pulled away from everyone else, always with the headphones. The constant distraction she keeps herself busy with makes it hard for him to figure out let alone sneak his way into her mind like he does with everyone else. The beast inside him recognized something in her onsight in elementary school and never let go. And in turn it became an obsession. And this trip, this stupid trip he almost didn't go on is his ticket to finally try to understand the pull in his chest, the way the animal in him paces and pads in her presence, needing her attention and why despite never speaking, never looking at each other, there's a resonance between them. She doesn't seem to be taken in by the deep red hair, the dark gold eyes with green flecks that have girls on their knees and doing what he wants. The tattoos covering him don't intimidate her, neither to the piercings, his careful speech, quiet voice, the fact that he never needs to yell, control a group with just a hand motion. She just looks past him. But he can't outrun the need. The need to own, understand, feel, touch, and matter to her. It's been there for years, but now it's gotten the chance it's been praying for to make itself known.
