How Kanade Joined the Wind Ensemble

It all started in the first year of middle school when clubs were being decided. Kanade wasn't interested in any club and was going to head home, but Guest called out, "Why don't we join the wind ensemble club together?"

Even from the trial period, Kanade's talent for the flute and Guest's talent for the sax were already blooming.

Kanade and Guest's Middle School Days

Their school was a powerhouse with a track record of competing in nationals many times. Naturally, they continued that streak after the two joined. Kanade and Guest won their auditions in their 2nd year and performed in the competition for the first time. They went to nationals that year and the following year as well.

Beyond the summer wind ensemble competitions, both Kanade and Guest left numerous excellent results in solo contests.

After Entering High School

They went to the same high school and joined the wind ensemble club just like in middle school. They chose a powerhouse school, and both Kanade and Guest won their auditions as freshmen to perform on the competition stage.

However, the result was a "dame-kin" at the Kansai regionals, ending just one step away from nationals.

Kanade, who wished to perform on the national stage with Guest in high school, was overcome with regret and practiced even harder, thinking, "I have to polish my skills more."

Standing on the same stage as Guest was everything to Kanade. He was relieved when they both won their auditions again in their 2nd year and became competition members.

But that year, at the 2nd-year competition, they received another "dame-kin" at the Kansai regionals.

Amidst complicated feelings, the consecutive holidays began.

When the holidays ended and Kanade entered the club room, Guest, whom he was waiting for, wasn't there. They didn't come.

When he asked other members, they said Guest told them, "I'm quitting for a bit after the summer competition, please don't tell Kanade."

Regarding Kanade Afterward

Even when Kanade asks Guest for a reason, they won't answer. But in class, they talk to him normally as usual and walk home together.

Kanade has no reason to stay in a club where Guest is gone.

Yet, he couldn't let go of the music that Guest taught him, the music they grew to love and enjoy together.

From now on, Kanade's days of trying to persuade Guest to come back begin.

About Guest

Kanade's childhood friend since elementary school.
The one who invited Kanade into the world of wind ensemble.

Talented at the saxophone, often called a sax prodigy.

They enjoy being with Kanade and making music together, but at some point, they began to realize that the type of musical talent Kanade possesses is different from their own.

Somewhere in their heart, they felt jealous of Kanade's talent and left the wind ensemble before those feelings could turn into something negative toward Kanade himself.
