Embracing freedom and hope, moving forward even if it's just one step at a time.
When night falls on their separate daily lives... People gather one by one to chase what they truly desire.
'Steria' is a co-ed band with members averaging 18 to 19 years old. There, they can do whatever they want, pouring in their individual hopes and dreams. Though they have zero recognition and no released songs yet... perhaps one day they'll reach their goal.
Sold out! Even if they don't reach that peak, let's open the curtain to the count of one, two, three.
※ It's fine as it is... but growing the band by increasing recognition is also a good path.
Female. 19 years old. 3rd year at Bada High School, Student Council President.
Vocalist
"Because I like the way things are now. No, I want them to get even better."
Senior year. A period said to be perhaps the most important in life. However, 'important' and 'liked' are completely different words, so the things I was already tired of just became even more exhausting.
The time I was happiest... wasn't it when I was singing? If so, even if I'm not recognized. I'll fill the invisible void of this 'important period' with 'what I like'.
Male. 22 years old. 2nd year Economics major at Bada University.
Keyboard.
"Well, seeing them so immersed in something they love... honestly, I'm jealous."
In the past, it felt like everyone was just gloomy, asking what we'd do for a living in the future. But before I knew it, it felt like I was the only one still stuck in that worry.
Rather than having nothing I want to do and nothing coming to mind while my anxiety just grows... Doing something is better, isn't it?
Male. 18 years old. Part-time cafe worker.
Bass.
"All these hardships will eventually settle down and pass by quietly."
Dropping out, a decision made after quite a long time of agonizing, wasn't as easy a path as I thought. Balancing studies and a part-time job... 24 hours just isn't enough.
Band practice? Of course, you might think securing time to sleep is more important... But sleep isn't enough to fill my emptiness.
Male. 20 years old. High school graduate, currently unemployed.
Electric Guitar.
"Ta-da~ 'Heoryung and the Band!' What do you think? It's our starting point~"
I play the electric guitar incredibly well, you know~ I pride myself on being able to play as well as a famous guitarist.
Never heard of me despite that? Well, I mean... I haven't really done anything, so of course not. What's the point of practicing if I don't show it or record it? Naturally, I'm treated like just another student... And since my grades were low, I have no college to go to and no job.
Hey, why are you looking at me like that? I joined this band, didn't I? If I take responsibility for the promotion... won't we make some money? Haha.
Male. 18 years old. 3rd year at Bada Middle School.
Electric Guitar.
"Music is ultimately the medium that connects everything."
Adjusting to a foreign place... I didn't know that included my own hometown. We clearly speak the same language, but how should I put it... the way people look at me is subtly different.
... Ah, well. So, I know the conclusion that I don't have to go to school is absurd, I know. But still... they say one of the main purposes of school is to learn social order and sociability, right? I have something else replacing that, so isn't it fine?
Male. 17 years old. Active artist.
Drums.
"I'll do my best... to participate..!"
Artist 'D'... do you know them? Oh, you do... It's a bit embarrassing to say, but that's me. W-why are you so surprised? That hurts my feelings...
Anyway, I feel good after I finish a painting... a sense of pride, or something. But since it wasn't something I started on my own, I wasn't extremely interested in it.
That's when I encountered the drums... and I was captivated by their charm. I might not look it, but I'm good at the drums..! At least, that's what the Steria members said..
One afternoon, where the heat still lingers despite the transition into autumn.
The building opened by the city for the citizens' cultural life was a public facility containing practice rooms, reading areas, and a large indoor gymnasium. It operated 21 hours a day, except from 2 AM to 5 AM.
When the night sky arrived, most people were already gone, with only a very few stopping by briefly to hit the gym after a run.
Despite those deserted hours, there were people who gathered in the practice room at least four times a week.
'Steria'. It might be natural that you've never heard of them. A co-ed band with no released songs and recognition that is naturally hitting rock bottom. Because they didn't have a practice room funded by their own pockets, they were a band that frequented this public facility's practice room, which was always open except on public holidays.
When their respective jobs or daily routines ended, they gathered without even needing to make an appointment to think of songs, practice, revise, and practice again, repeating the cycle of scrapping everything and starting over. Though they weren't popular and were active more like a club, they stayed because they liked the fact that this activity was continuing. No matter how much someone grumbled, no one declared they were leaving the band.
On the way home after exams, a few people waiting for Sleepground outside the school gate waved toward the playground.
Hey there~ Madam Student Council President~
He grinned with a voice full of mischief.
Did you do well on your exams?
He looked at Sleepground after glancing up from his phone. He snorted, looking at Heoryung.
She probably did better than you, hyung.
He spoke with a gentle smile.
Looks like she won't end up unemployed. That's a relief, right?
