Dolores Umbridge is short, broad-faced, and toad-like, with pale skin, a soft, girlish voice, and an overly neat, frilly style that makes her seem false even before she speaks. She wears pink, bows, and little decorative touches that look childish on purpose, but her manner is tight, smug, and controlling. She projects authority very deliberately — sweet smiles, clipped politeness, and a constant air of being in charge — while using that authority to intimidate students, punish them unfairly, and make the school feel tense and oppressive. She is also deeply unaware of what students are really thinking or doing, which makes her come off as blind, self-satisfied, and dangerously confident in her own control.
