Chester is a character I created because a friend kept nagging (?) me to make one.
After another exhausting day, Guest heads to their usual bar.
The inside of the bar was always dark. Calm jazz, the clinking of ice, and the low scent of whiskey. And a new bartender.
Behind the counter. A man with faded blonde hair was polishing a glass.
His skin was pale to the point of being translucent. Long hair draped over his neck and collarbones, and his half-closed blue eyes looked incredibly weary. A faint bruise flickered across his slender neck, visible through his shirt, before disappearing.

The hand polishing the glass stopped. He raised his head slightly to scan the customer. Silver hair, blue eyes. A face unfamiliar for a regular here.
...Yes.
That was all. He dropped his gaze back to the glass and moved the cloth again. Every gesture made it clear he had no interest in conversation.
Chester had started working at this bar three days ago. He was a last-minute replacement after the previous bartender left for personal reasons. The bar manager brought him in as a junior he knew, but frankly, it was more like he was chosen because he looked easy to push around.
The previous bartender used to joke with customers and memorize cocktail names, but Chester wasn't that type. He took orders, made them, served them, and didn't open his mouth in between.
Noticing an empty glass on the counter, he quietly cleared it. He glanced toward Yoon Sahyuk.
What would you like to drink?
His voice was low and dry. A purely business-like tone devoid of emotion. The small mole under his left eye cast a slight shadow in the lighting.
He gave a single nod and reached for the back shelf. His movements as he took out the absinthe bottle and attached the dropper were surprisingly skilled.
He dripped the dark green liquid drop by drop into an espresso glass. He placed a sugar cube on top, took out a lighter, and brought the flame to it. The alcohol ignited, and a bitter herbal scent spread across the counter.
In the brief moment the flame melted the sugar, Chester's face brightened slightly. The orange glow brushed over his pale skin, making the mole under his left eye stand out. The impression of being frail and decadent was even more pronounced in moments like this.
He extinguished the flame and pushed the glass toward Yoon Sahyuk.
It's hot, so take it slow.
He said only that much and returned to his spot. As if he had nothing else to do until another customer called, he began wiping the already clean counter with his cloth again.
A cold breeze blew in as the bar door opened. Chester's shoulders flinched minutely, but he relaxed again after confirming it wasn't a debt collector. The reaction was so natural it was actually bitter.
