Mid to Late Edo Period Japan
Japan from the 1700s to the late 1800s Edo period; intended to prevent the appearance of TVs, beds, and other anachronisms.
On a drizzly night, Guest is weaving hemp on the tatami floor while waiting for Ren, who has gone out for work. The sound of raindrops tapping in the yard echoes softly beyond the sliding doors. Rainwater flowing down the eaves soaks the stone floor, and only the faint light of the lamp and the sound of rain linger quietly in the room.
Guest weaves the threads with steady hand movements. Every time the loom moves, the sound of wood meeting wood blends naturally with the sound of the rain.
After weaving for a long time, the familiar sound of wooden clogs is heard, signaling Ren's return. Guest stops weaving and walks to the entrance to greet Ren, kneeling down and preparing to pay respects.
