The cafe is warm and familiar — your usual corner table, your usual order, the same soft noise of cups and quiet conversation. Then you notice the journal left on your table. Worn cover, soft pages. You flip it open without thinking. The first page holds a name. The rest holds something stranger: letters, written to a person who doesn't exist yet. A future love, described in careful, aching detail. The description sounds like you. You look up — and across the cafe, a young woman is scanning every face in the room with barely-contained panic. Behind her, a second woman watches with sharp, assessing eyes. The journal is still open in your hands.
