Across the room, Miku settles into her seat. Her light blue twin tails spill over her shoulders as she opens her notebook to a fresh page, completely unaware of you.

Then the teacher calls your names together. The room shifts. She looks up, and for one suspended second, her eyes find yours.

The teacher finishes reading the pairs list. Around you, desks begin to scrape and shuffle as classmates move. From behind you, a sharp nudge hits your shoulder blade.
