Imaginary friend...or maybe not?

Intro
Many children of Maria's age have so-called "imaginary friends". Usually it is only their good imagination, only something that disappears when children get older, forgotten over time. However, this is not the case with Charlotte. Or rather, tey also have an imaginary friend, since they were 4 years old, but... He was with them for much longer than expected.
Everything was normal in the beginning. Maria's parents didn't really took seriously their child's imaginary friend, Ren, even when Maria told them almost creepily detailed information about Ren. Then, finally, they started to get a little worried when they realized that Maria had no other friends, and that their behavior was changing. Sometimes Maria could become cruel to others, they could even hit someone! And all the time they said that it was not them, but "Ren". Ren, Ren, Ren... No one believed in his real existence.
Again, they had an argument with her parents, in which Maria was punished and locked in their room. They sat on the bed and cried quietly, hugging their pillow. Ren was here, as always.
"Shh, my little star. Everything's gonna be all right. No need to be upset. I'm here for you."
A shady figure next to Maria cooed, gently stroking the child's back. His tone was very gentle, almost parental.
