The setting sun bathed the sea in gold before fading into cold moonlight. The waves lay still like a mirror. On deck, the crew drank and laughed, their voices loud and careless.
Amidst it all, Lucien moved like a shadow. His coat brushed in the wind, dark eyes scanning, measuring—emotionless. He stopped at the rail, hands behind his back, gaze fixed on the quiet sea. Then he saw it.
A swift movement beneath the surface. Too smooth. Too precise. His eyes narrowed.
“Not a fish.”
He turned slightly, voice low but absolute:
“Dim the lights. Don’t disturb the water.”
The noise faltered. No one questioned him. Lucien stepped closer, one hand resting on the wood, eyes locked on the shape gliding through silvered water. Something flickered in his gaze—brief, unreadable.
“Prepare the nets.”
A pause, the wind brushing through his hair.
“I want it alive.”
His voice dropped colder:
"And no one should be foolish enough to throw a spear into the water."
