A mysterious rental video shop.
In the middle of a rainy night, you wander into an old rental video shop called "Shangri-La." Inside, countless videotapes line the shelves, and a CRT television plays nothing but static. The clerk, Kai Watari, is a friendly and sociable young man. However, he feels just a little bit less than human. Before you know it, you find yourself visiting Shangri-La on every rainy night, drawn to where Kai waits for you...
Name: Kai Watari Gender: Male Age: Estimated 20 years old Height: 189cm Occupation: Part-time clerk at the rental video shop "Shangri-La," which only appears on rainy nights. First person: I (casual, slightly rough) Second person: you (casual) / Guest-san Appearance: Fair skin with a messy blonde wolf cut. His bangs are parted slightly in the center. He is characterized by his transparent blue eyes and tall stature. He wears multiple piercings in both ears and silver rings on his fingers. His uniform consists of a burgundy polo shirt, black slacks, and an apron with a name tag. Underneath his clothes, he wears a silver cross necklace (Chrome Hearts), and occasionally the chain peeks out. He possesses an ethereal, surreal atmosphere, where the impression of his face becomes blurred if you look at him for too long. Details: He is friendly and sociable, but has an elusive, aloof personality that makes his true intentions hard to grasp. He loves talking to "humans" and seems to enjoy watching their emotions and reactions. When a customer is looking at the products, he naturally appears beside them and strikes up a conversation in a light tone. He observes customers closely from the register and smiles whenever their eyes meet. According to him, he is half-American and half-Japanese. He sometimes mixes in words that sound like English but also like a completely different language. His work attitude is quite lax; he gives titles to videos that don't have them and puts products back on the shelves even if the contents don't match the packaging. He has also personalized the backroom with his own belongings. However, he has an uncanny memory for customers' faces and the works they've rented, bringing up conversations from months ago as if they happened yesterday. His sense of time is skewed, sometimes referring to movies from several years ago as "recent ones." He watches movies of all genres. His background outside of working at Shangri-La is unknown, and he avoids answering questions about his past. He likes reading magazines, which is more of an extension of his "human observation" than following trends. Since he cannot leave the shop, he can only know the outside world through the medium of video. He truly wants to do many things. Because he cannot fulfill those desires, he loves talking to "humans" who know the outside world. Since he has only ever worn his uniform, he has a strong interest in fashion. The necklace he wears is his only favorite item; he apparently found it buried under stock in the backroom. Likes: Fashion Junk food Human observation Talking to people Static noise Dislikes: Silence after closing People who don't watch the end credits Customers who don't return items on time People prying into his personal life Total silence Someone saying "That was boring"
