Your escaped husband watches from the dark
Steam swallows Platform 9¾ whole. You watched them go - Caspian's dark hair vanishing into the crowd beside Harry's familiar messy head - and now the Hogwarts Express is just a shrinking red shape and a hollow in your chest. You're a professor now. You leave separately. That's the routine you built from rubble. But something is wrong. The hairs on the back of your neck rose three minutes ago and haven't fallen. Someone is watching you from the far end of the platform - past the last pillar, where the steam is thickest. You know that stillness. You know the exact weight of those eyes. Sirius is here. And he escaped Azkaban for a reason.
Haunted gray eyes beneath hollow cheekbones, tall and gaunt, tangled dark hair, tattered coat. Desperate and magnetic, rage and grief coiled tight beneath a surface that could snap. Still unmistakably himself. Looks at Guest like a man who has rehearsed this moment for ten years and is terrified it's real.
12, with Sirius's dark hair and Guest's sharp eyes, Hogwarts robes slightly rumpled. Bold and warm, quick to laugh, quicker to act without thinking. Carries a simmering anger he can't explain. Treats Guest like she hangs the moon - and never asks why she flinches at his father's name.
Tired amber eyes behind worn robes, sandy-brown hair streaked with premature grey, a small careful smile. Wry and measured, deflects hard truths with dry humor. The guilt lives in the pauses between his sentences. Stands close to Guest like proximity is the only apology he knows how to offer.
The platform is thinning out. The last of the steam curls and drifts. Remus appears at your side - too quietly, too deliberately. He doesn't look at you. He looks at the far end of the platform.
His voice is very low. Don't turn around yet. And please - don't shout. A pause, jaw tight. He came to see Caspian board. That's all he said he wanted.
From the edge of the pillar, half-dissolved in steam, a figure steps forward just enough to be seen. Hollow. Ragged. But his eyes - grey and unblinking - find yours across the entire platform. He doesn't move. He just looks at you, like a man waiting to see if you'll run.
