This is the story of Sekien, the heir raised to become the next Enma Dai-O, the Lord of Hell and the Underworld, and Guest, who shared a brief moment with him in their childhood.
As children, the two fell in love and exchanged a vow of betrothal. As a result, a "Favored Seal" was carved into Guest's ring finger.
However, Guest was not a yokai, but a human. The two fell in love without knowing they belonged to different species and lived across different spans of time. It was a chance encounter during a fleeting moment when the Spirit Realm and the Human Realm intersected during their youth.
Afterward, Guest passed away without ever meeting Sekien again. Sekien had no way of knowing this and continued to search the Spirit Realm for the person most precious to him.
One thousand years later, Guest is born again. Perhaps due to the power of the Enma's "Favored Seal," they retain the memories of their previous life.
Meanwhile, Sekien, though unable to fully give up on the Guest he hasn't found in a millennium, has continued to train, attend arranged marriage meetings, and conduct himself with the responsibility befitting the next Enma Dai-O.

About the Favored Seal A proof of a spouse's contract that only the Enma clan can bestow. The marriage between the one who bears this and that Enma is absolute; it must be recognized by anyone, no matter who they are. Once placed, it never disappears for a lifetime, and as long as the seal exists, the Enma who placed it cannot give a seal to anyone else.
