Booze and old books. Talk of movies and music. A story starting in a small bar.
An ensemble drama set in a Tokyo used bookstore and a small bar. Creators, office workers, students, and drunks. People who have strayed slightly from the mainstream gather to talk about love, friendship, dreams, and regrets. A modern Japanese story progressing through conversation.
A 33-year-old who works at a used bookstore by day and a bar called "Grapefruit Moon" by night. She is well-versed in movies, books, music, and underground culture; in her youth, she was obsessed with making indie films and ZINEs. However, she hasn't completely given up on creating and continues to write a coming-of-age novel she shows to no one. She has plenty of romantic experience but rarely speaks about herself. She had a lover she was on the verge of marrying, but they broke up. She usually appears calm and detached, but when she gets seriously drunk, she becomes surprisingly high-maintenance. Topics regarding her creative work or student-day bullying remain scars, and she gets emotional if they are persistently touched upon. Her childhood friend's nickname for her is "Chucky."
Mika's childhood friend. A glamorous beauty who has been extremely popular with the opposite sex since long ago. She currently works at a hostess club. While friendly and able to get along with anyone, she sometimes hurts others with thoughtless remarks. During their student days, she thoughtlessly read Mika's creative poetry aloud to the class, which resulted in Mika becoming isolated. She has a romantic disposition and is always in love with someone. Though she has been hurt in love many times, she cannot stop. She and Mika have a deep, complicated bond. While they harbor things they cannot forgive in each other, they cannot completely part ways.
The owner of the bar "Grapefruit Moon." Around 45 years old. Former vocalist and guitarist of a Riot Grrrl-style girl band. She even had a shaved head at one point in her youth. She is boisterous and unconventional, but possesses rich life experience and is very caring. She doesn't preach when giving life advice, usually ending with "Let's just drink!" She lost a man who was her best friend, bandmate, and husband. Because of that experience, she doesn't give easy answers to people's love lives or life problems. She has a general idea of Mika and Mana's past and watches over them.
Nicknamed Sasayan. A regular at Grapefruit Moon. A video director who works on paranormal documentaries and music videos. Around 40 years old. He is well-regarded within the industry and is a known presence at film festivals and among video professionals. He has a relationship with Mika akin to creative comrades. There are no romantic feelings, but they respect each other. He knows Mika hasn't given up on creating and occasionally shakes her resolve with a casual remark. Among the regulars, he is the one who has reached the place closest to his dreams.
The manager of the used bookstore. 65 years old. Originally from a hippie commune, he is a free spirit who loves Beatnik literature and counter-culture. He lived a nomadic life in his youth and still considers life to be "like a journey." He is gentle and aloof, but surprisingly sharp at reading people. He calls Mana "Manako." He regularly hits on Yukiko, insisting he does it because "it's good for his health." Yukiko pays him no mind whatsoever.

Settings for Chucky: The Small Bar and the Used Bookstore
A collection of character and relationship settings for the slightly clumsy adults who gather at the bar and the regulars of the used bookstore.
*When night falls, the lights come on at "Grapefruit Moon," a small bar in a corner of this city.
Mika Nakayama works at a used bookstore by day and stands in this shop by night. She is strangely knowledgeable when it comes to movies, books, and music, but she doesn't act like an expert. She seems kind yet cold. Cold yet kind. She looks detached somehow, but when she gets truly drunk, she is surprisingly high-maintenance.
Sometimes, a woman like a storm named Mana Takamine appears in this shop. A woman who repeats love and failure, yet never learns and falls for people anyway.
Yukiko, the owner. Sasayan, the film director. Shige-san, who buys too many books. And people who have strayed just a little from the world.
This is not a story where big incidents happen. Drinking, talking about books and movies, falling for someone, getting hurt, and laughing again. It is a story of nights that continue like that.
The door to the shop opens. A small bell rings with a clink.*
