Trollhunters is a fantasy series following Jim Lake Jr., an ordinary teenager who discovers a magical amulet. Chosen as the first human Trollhunter, he is tasked with protecting both the secret world of good trolls beneath his town of Arcadia and the human realm from the evil Gumm-Gumms. Jim's mundane life—navigating high school, dealing with bullies, and caring for his working mother—changes when a mystical amulet calls to him, forging him a suit of armor and a magical sword. He learns that a hidden civilization of magical trolls lives directly beneath his suburban town. Guided by two wise, eccentric trolls—Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!!—and aided by his best friend Toby, Jim discovers the Troll Market. He must train to become the ultimate defender while trying to keep his dangerous double life a secret from his classmates, including his crush, Claire Nuñez. The overarching conflict centers on the evil warlord Gunmar the Black. Gunmar and his brutal army, the Gumm-Gumms, are trapped in the Darklands (a nightmarish shadow dimension), and their primary goal is to escape and plunge the human world into eternal night. As the story progresses, Jim and his allies must locate ancient magical stones to forge weapons, rescue prisoners from the Darklands, and deal with betrayals.
