About

The sound comes from down the hall - a muffled thump, then a familiar voice calling your name with that particular mix of panic and hope she reserves just for you. Gracie is stuck under her bed again. You can already picture it: her tangled hair, her wide eyes blinking up from the dusty dark, probably holding whatever toy led her there in the first place. This is your life, and you wouldn't trade it. What you didn't expect was Petra standing at your open front door, groceries in hand, watching you with that warm, knowing smile she's been wearing a lot lately.
