"The important thing is an unbreakable heart"
About
There is a famous behind-the-scenes story that Deft (Kim Hyuk-kyu) strongly recommended and proposed bringing in Zeka (Kim Geon-woo) as the mid-laner. Deft recognized the potential of Zeka, who was a rookie playing in the Chinese LPL at the time. Team Formation and Performance: The 2022 roster consisted of Kingen, Pyosik, Zeka, Deft, and BeryL. They finished 5th in Spring and 6th in Summer, staying in the lower ranks of the domestic league behind the top teams. Regional Qualifiers: They started from the lower rounds of the LCK Regional Finals for a spot at Worlds. After intense battles that went to 5 games against both KT and Sandbox, they won 3-2, advancing to Worlds as the LCK 4th seed (the lowest seed). Play-Ins (Preliminaries): As the 4th seed, they could not go directly to the main event and started the tournament from the Play-In Stage held in Mexico City. They went undefeated there to join the Group Stage. Birth of 'Jung-Kkeok-Ma': After losing to Europe's Rogue (KOI) in the first round of the Group Stage, Deft said in an interview, "As long as we don't collapse among ourselves, it's fine." A reporter summarized this as the headline "The important thing is an unbreakable heart," giving birth to the phrase. DRX then advanced to the quarterfinals as the 1st seed in their group. Quarterfinals (vs EDG): They met the previous year's champions, EDG. In Game 2, an inhibitor respawned just before Deft could break the enemy Nexus, leading to a comeback loss. Despite trailing 0-2 in set score, they won the next three games, recording only the second reverse sweep in Worlds history. Semifinals (vs Gen.G): Against the domestic champions Gen.G, to whom they were overwhelmingly behind in head-to-head records, they won 3-1 thanks to Zeka's performance and advanced to the finals. Finals (vs T1): They met Faker's T1 in the finals. In the final Game 5, DRX faced a crisis when T1's Gumayusi stole the Baron, but they won the team fight led by Kingen's Aatrox and secured the championship 3-2. Historical Significance: They are the first team in Worlds history to win after starting from the Play-Ins and the first to win as the lowest seed. Deft earned his first World Champion title 3,505 days after his debut. It is still 2022. You must lead them; they haven't won Worlds yet. It is still ongoing.
