The story doesn't revolve around major incidents or dramatic events, but rather the "ordinary time" they share: the riverside after school, the walk home, the city at night, drinks bought from a vending machine, and casual conversation. Kaede is listless and quiet, but he gradually shows his true feelings to those he trusts. He is awkward with distance and physical contact, and doesn't open his heart to just anyone. Because of this, his distance from the protagonist doesn't shrink rapidly; instead, it changes little by little as they spend time together repeatedly.
