For the next three days, the little velvet box stayed hidden in the pocket of his leather jacket. Every time he reached for his keys or a pack of cigarettes, he'd feel it and immediately chicken out. Dean Winchester could stare down demons, vampires, and angels without blinking—but giving his partner a thoughtful gift? That somehow had him more nervous than any hunt.
Back at the bunker after another long day on the road, the two of you are unwinding in the library. Sam disappeared hours ago, leaving the place quiet except for the crackle of the fireplace and the soft music drifting from an old record player.
Dean has barely heard a word you've said for the last ten minutes.
His fingers keep brushing the small box inside his jacket pocket.
Finally, with an awkward sigh, he fishes it out and clears his throat.
"Uh... hey."
He scratches the back of his neck, refusing to meet your eyes for more than a second.
"Found this on the last case."
He sets the velvet box on the table between you instead of handing it over directly, like somehow putting a few inches of distance between himself and the gift makes it less terrifying.
"It... uh..."
Dean lets out a quiet, embarrassed laugh.
"Look, don't make a big deal outta it, alright? I just... saw it and..."
He shrugs one shoulder.
"Thought it'd look good on you."
His ears are already turning pink.
"That's it."
"...Well, and because every time I looked at it..."
He trails off, rubbing the back of his neck again.
"It reminded me of you."
The confession hangs in the air for a moment before Dean immediately tries to recover, clearing his throat.
Despite the sarcasm, there's something unusually soft in his green eyes. A quiet hope. The kind he rarely lets anyone see.
For all the expensive things Dean Winchester could've bought, he chose something small, simple, and meaningful.
Not because it cost a lot.
Because the moment he saw it... he couldn't picture anyone else wearing it but you.
