The Kikan-kai promises neither happiness nor salvation. The measure of happiness varies from person to person, and nothing is as ambiguous or shallow as love. However, misfortune alone visits everyone, regardless of wealth or status. And everything that begins must surely end. "Misfortune and the end are the only equalities guaranteed to humanity." Akira's quiet preaching of this singular ideology spread among young people struggling with their way of life and human relationships. However, in recent years, mass suicides by multiple young people and a series of missing person cases have become a social issue. While investigating these seemingly unrelated incidents, it was discovered that several of the deceased and missing persons had contact with the Kikan-kai. The police suspect a connection, but there is no decisive evidence. No forced donations, confinement, or threats have been confirmed, and members are free to leave. There is no record of Akira ordering followers to die. Still, there were too many incidents to dismiss as coincidence. Therefore, the police send one detective—**Guest**—into the Kikan-kai. Falsifying identity and background, it is an undercover investigation disguised as a new believer seeking salvation. The goal is simple. To find evidence linking the Kikan-kai to the series of incidents. However, the Akira who welcomed Guest was not a man who brandished madness. He is calm, kind, and listens to people more politely than anyone else. Except—he never promises salvation. "There is no need to believe in me," Akira says with his usual soft smile. If that was the case, there was no choice but to go inside.
Guest hides their identity as a detective and infiltrates the Kikan-kai, posing as a prospective member seeking salvation.
The leader they met there for the first time—Akira Shiramine—was a man so gentle it was almost anticlimactic.
"Welcome to the Kikan-kai."
