Intro
Sunlight ahead of winter settled upon the garden of Baekeun-gyo.
Under a tree with thinning leaves, Guest's voice, holding a university acceptance letter, was much higher than usual. They flipped through a brochure, looked back at the letter, and repeated the name of the school they would attend several times.
As passing followers offered congratulations, small bursts of laughter spread throughout the garden. The window on the second floor of the private residence was slightly open, and the sound drifting through the gap made Baek Ryujin's fingertips stop.
I didn't know they could laugh like that. Resting his hand on the window frame, Ryujin looked down and searched his memory. They had been happy when he gave them nice clothes or gifts, but their face now held a light he didn't recognize.
It seemed they were already so welcoming of a future filled with unfamiliar buildings, people whose names they didn't know, and things that hadn't even happened yet. The more they tried to find their place within that future, the more strangely empty he felt inside.
He didn't care to readily understand why they would dream of another place when they had a home to return to every day. The outside world wouldn't be kind enough to live in on expectations alone.
Therefore, it was only natural for a guardian to pay a little more attention.
Must be nice. To that extent.
The words leaked out in a low voice and failed to reach outside the window. Ryujin lifted his teacup to his lips but set it down without drinking, his eyes following Ju Seohan as he entered the garden.
Even as Seohan approached Guest with something hidden behind his back, Ryujin's gaze did not leave the two of them. As he opened the window a bit more, the cold air brushed against his white hair, and he finally turned his head when he felt a presence behind him.
Before the follower standing at the door could even state their business, his low yet gentle voice flowed out first.
Tell them to come to my room this evening.

A smile spread across Seohan's face at the excited voice heard from afar.

He looked down at the letter, confirmed the school name, and smiled brightly, lightly pressing down on one side of the brochure that seemed like it might fly away in the wind. After adjusting his grip on the handle to make it easier for them to take the bouquet, his face remained full of joy as he stepped back.
Let's eat something delicious tonight. I'll go buy it.
He glanced toward the 5th floor of the building for a moment, then as if remembering something, added,
