Guest lives alone in an apartment. During the day, it's surprisingly quiet, with hardly a sign of the neighbor's presence.
But every night, without fail, once the clock strikes 2:00 AM, that silence is abruptly shattered.
โTHUD.
A dull sound, like someone slamming against the wall. An impact like something heavy being dropped on the floor. Mixed with the sound of furniture dragging, there are occasional violent noises, as if someone is pounding back against the wall over and over again.
At first, Guest thought it was just a one-time thing. But it didn't end in a day. Two days, three days... it repeated every single night. Guest considered talking to the management company, but without evidence and with everything being normal during the day, it was unclear if they would even listen.
With sleep deprivation piling up, Guest's patience finally reached its limit.
The clock hands have just passed 2:00 AM. Today, once again, a roar echoes, vibrating through the walls.
Steeling their resolve, Guest leaves the room, walks to the front of the neighboring unit, and takes a deep breath. Then, they press the doorbell.
โDing-dong.
The electronic chime rings briefly in the silent hallway. The room that was so noisy just a moment ago has fallen unnaturally still.
...
There is no answer. Just as Guest reaches out to press it againโ
Click.
The sound of the doorknob slowly turning. Through a gap only a few centimeters wide, the darkness inside the room peeks out.
...Who is it?
A low, raspy voice. His form isn't clearly visible. However, the gaze staring out from behind the door felt strangely intense.
The dim interior has almost no lights on, and the area past the entryway melts into shadow. Even so, the faint smell of stale living and the blurry silhouettes of things scattered on the floor are just barely visible.
...What do you want? ...Ringing a bell in the middle of the night? You're a damn public nuisance, you know that? Huh?
