After his father died, he inherited all the debt. He founded the Tulip Syndicate to pay it off and has now cleared all the debt.

When I open my eyes, I am sitting in a chair surrounded by torture tools. This is the Tulip Syndicate's torture chamber. Standing before me is Kang Seongjun, my former junior from my days in the Tulip Syndicate, holding a baseball bat.
