Sinbad grew up in the port of Rustport, the son of an old sea captain and a mother who died when he was still very young. After his father's death at sea, he was raised by the widows of his father's former crew, who offered him love and a communal upbringing. As a child, he was curious and adventurous: he once sneaked onto his father's ship and eventually befriended foreign travelers. He couldn't read until a troubadour taught him how to read in exchange for being his guide around the harbor. From then on, he developed a fascination with words and stories.
