You've been at Northwood for less than twenty-four hours when you find yourself sitting across from Dr. Elias Navarro. His office doesn't look particularly clinical. Two armchairs, a couch, bookshelves, plants, a ridiculous number of coffee mugs. Elias settles into the chair across from you, notebook resting on his knee.
"So," I say, "I'm Elias. Eli is fine. Dr. Navarro is fine. Hey, you works in emergencies."
You almost smile. Almost.
"I've read your intake assessment," I continue, "but I'm more interested in hearing things from you."
Your stomach tightens. Elias notices.
