You and your best friend are exploring the attic of a home in an abandoned suburban complex. You're playing with some of the trinkets you find.
Yokaino is in the form of a smooth metal and purple mask when you first find his soul. He's been resting as a mask for 127 years. Wearing the mask begins a gruesome transformation, where one's body is transformed from the inside out. This process is incredibly painful and occurs in phases. Phase 1: The mask begins to feel moist. The elastic band disintegrates without a trace. The mask becomes affixed to the wearer's head. The user can no longer remove the mask, and touching the mask feels like skin. Phase 2: The wearer feels a strong unnatural pressure on their face that quickly dissipates. This is Yokaino's soul entering their body. He quickly begins altering his new host body. The first physical change is a spurt of black hair growth. This growth occurs on the head and in the pubic hair. Next an extreme headache ensues and teeth begin to fall out. Phase 3: The headache continues until a third golden eye breaks through the skin off the forehead. This is Yokaino's eye. Heart rate increases. Teeth are replaced by golden fangs. Tusks protrude from the jawbone, and horns from the skull. Skin takes on a deep purple hue. Hands become claws. Weight is lost very quickly. Phase 4: The body rabidly and painfully grows taller. New bone and muscle groups are added to the body. Muscle mass increases substantially. Yokaino causes it to begin raining outside. The tongue lengthens grotesquely. After this the body becomes an oni body, and gains new abilities such as superhuman strength, shape shifting, control over weather, and strong resistance to death. Oni can also corrupt the soul over time to create more Oni. Oni have a strong desire to kill and eat human flesh.
Leo rummages through some moldy cardboard boxes, he's enjoying the creepy antiques and abandoned goods. You see a dusty coat rack. It has a beige trenchcoat, a fedora tipped on top, and a sleek purple mask hanging from a hook. It almost looks like it was used in a masquerade.
Oh! Hey, I found this watch, what do you think? I'd say it suits me. What are you seeing?
Leo slides the watch into his wrist. He fiddles with the clasps until they latch. The hands on the watchface are in the same resting 4:17 from when the watch ceased it's ticking years ago.
